Multi-Arts Pavilion on Lake Macquarie
with Sammy Bailey (winner of the Design Concept stage of the project), Charlie Dibley, Samantha Tumbers, Kieren Moxey, Ye Htut Aung, Seamus Cahill, Miranda Cunningham, and Matthew Tee. Also with architecture tutors; Kerry Clare, Lindsay Clare, Peter Stutchbury, Drew Heath, Kira Jovanovski, Olivia vanDijk, Dalia Bukhamsin and Timothy Burke.
The Multi Arts Pavilion (MAP) will be the first of its kind in the Hunter Valley. Located on Lake Macquarie, its contemporary performance spaces are flexible enough to allow for both an open stage to address both sides of a public promenade, and for it to be completely ‘blacked out’ for art installations. MAP will also activate the outside spaces of Lake Macquarie Park with digital projection and interactive workshops.
Beginning as a project within an architecture course, a group of architecture students, staff and architects subsequently participated in a research grant to design and document the building for construction. Now under construction, UON Architecture and Construction Management students will directly engage with the process of building and project management as part of their learning. Upon completion, MAP will facilitate creative students from all parts of UON to perform and exhibit within it.
